Industry Advisory Council

The FAU Department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science (EECS) Industrial Advisory Council’s (IAC) mission is to engage its industry and government partners in EECS programs through communication and shared activities. Input from the members of the IAC is essential to understanding the needs of the industry and offers insight into how well the department meets future technology needs of Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Bioengineering, and a newly created MS program: Artificial Intelligence. The IAC members comment on academics, research, outreach, advocacy and development to help further the reputation of the department as an institution of higher learning. Alumni success is a fundamental indicator of the quality of our programs.

The state of the department is described by the Chair to the IAC members in meetings that typically are called twice a year. The Board is kept abreast of all EECS Department issues: Hiring, Research and Education. The meetings are divided into research and teaching matters. Program educational objectives and important curriculum changes are reviewed at these IAC meetings to make sure that the BS EE, CE and CS curricula match industry needs. The IAC creates its own budget from members’ subscriptions, runs the IAC meetings and maintains minutes of all the meetings.

The main roles of the IAC are best summarized as follows:

  • Oversee the department mission, goals, outcomes and vision,
  • Oversee curriculum development and reform,
  • Provide funding and/or supervision to senior project designs,
  • Assess the Department’s programs,
  • Suggest continuous improvements, and
  • Inform about local company hiring in certain specific technical areas.
